Everyone knows that police detective John Shaft (Samuel L. Jackson) is the toughest and smartest cop in New York City. He is one of those people who are ready to work themselves to the bone to fight for justice. This time Shaft is out to put away a spoiled preppie, Walter Wade (Christian Bale), who killed a young black student. Shaft arrests the perpetrator but he is soon set free on 200-thousand dollars bail and escapes to Switzerland. Two years later, Wade secretly returns to the United States and gets a bust. When Wade's father (Philip Bosco), a wealthy tycoon, posts a million dollars bail for his son once again, Shaft throws his badge and leaves police to lead his personal vendetta against Wade. Teamed up with his eye-catching fellow detective Carmen Vasquez (Vanessa L. Williams), Shaft must find barmaid Diane Palmieri (Toni Collette), who was an eye witness to the racially-motivated murder. Meanwhile, Wade asks his cellmate Peoples Hernandez (Jeffrey Wright), a Dominican drug lord, to kill the only witness of his crime. Hernandez, in his turn, gives a graft to two corrupt officers to find the girl. |

Cris Johnson (Nicolas Cage) was born with a special gift to see two minutes into the future and change it to suit himself. Unwilling to attract attention to his ability, he works as a magician with the stage name of Frank Cadillac, performing third-rate shows in Las Vegas and living off "winnings" on slot machines. Unfortunately for Cris, both casino security and the FBI somehow learn of his power and want to take advantage of it. The casino bosses want him to rob the house. FBI agent Callie Ferris (Julianne Moore) wants him to thwart the detonation of a nuclear device in Los Angeles. Cris, however, wants nothing to do with the former and the latter. Harmony Korine presents the viewer with a barrage of random vignettes depicting the lives of definitely odd yet vivid characters which make the movie unique and memorable. The main characters are Solomon (Jacob Reynolds) and Tummler (Nick Sutton), two bored teenagers living in the small shattered town of Xenia, Ohio. A few years ago, a devastating tornado swept through the town, dealing death and destruction along its path. Since then the teenage boys have been involved in antisocial behaviour in order to kill time. Their outrageous adventures include killing cats and selling their carcasses, sniffing glue, having sex with mentally handicapped girls, riding bikes through the mud, playing practical jokes, and meeting various queer, disturbing and depraved people. Among them is a troubled drunk man (Harmony Korine) flirting with a black midget (Bryant L. Crenshaw); a man pimping his mentally retarded sister; two boy-crazy sisters, Dot (Chloe Sevigny) and Helen (Carisa Bara), who dream of becoming strippers; Bunny Boy (Jacob Sewell), a pre-adolescent skateboarder wearing a pair of long pink ears. |

An orphan named Bei (Jackie Chan) is an exercise equipment salesman who has studied martial arts and dreamt of real adventures since childhood.
