The suspense thriller focuses on Bob Lee Swagger (Mark Wahlberg), a top Marine Corps scout sniper who has retired from the service after a routine mission ended in failure. Three years later, he is coerced back into service in order to thwart an assassination attempt against the President of the United States. While carrying out his mission, Swagger is shot twice by a police officer, but manages to escape and take refuge with Sarah Fenn (Kate Mara), the widow of his former partner. Realizing that he has been framed and is now the subject of a national manhunt, Swagger sets out both to find the real shooter and take revenge on corrupt CIA agents who have twice betrayed him. |

In 1999, in Claremont, California, the violent Jake Mazursky owes US$ 1,200.00 to the coward drug dealer Johnny Truelove, who is son of the powerful criminal Sonny Truelove. The infamous Jack the Ripper case set in London of 1888. The Ripper has been running amok in the Whitechapel district murdering and dissecting prostitutes. Scotland Yard Inspector Fred Abberline, aided by his partner, Peter Godley, are on the case to figure out who this serial killer is and why he is killing these women in such a brutal manner. Abberline is an opium addict and when "chasing the dragon" he is able to have visions of the future, a certain psychic ability that allows him to solve cases. As Abberline and Godley investigate the crimes, they become acquainted with the prostitutes who were friends and colleagues of the victims. Abberline begins to fall in love with Mary Kelly, one of the prostitutes, or as the nobles called them "unfortunates", being hunted down by Jack the Ripper. Abberline digs deeper and deeper into the conspiracy and attempts to solve the case before Mary Kelly is the next victim. |

And in the midst of all this, you see kids as young as 10 or 11 using drugs and alcohol with some of the older kids.
