Alan, son of a toy store owner, tries out some new action figures: The Commando Elite vs. The Gorgonites. What he does not know, is that both sets of toys were designed to move, talk and play back. The Commando Elite's purpose is to destroy the Gorgonites. What would you do if you knew that a gigantic comet was about to slam into the earth and wipe out all life? President of the United States, Tom Beck (Morgan Freeman), announces to the world that there is only one year left before the fatal collision. Walter Fielding Jr. (Tom Hanks), an entertainment industry lawyer, and Anna Crowley (Shelley Long), a violinist, are forced to move out of the apartment that belongs to Anna's ex-husband, Max Beissart (Alexander Godunov), who has returned from his European tour and is about to take up residence again. Thus Walter and Anna need a home of their own. Through Walter's real estate agent friend, they learn about a beautiful suburban mansion for next-to-nothing and decide to buy it. But there's a catch. The seemingly perfect mansion turns out rotten. When the couple moves into the house, it quickly starts to fall apart. The main staircase collapses, the old water pipes are clogged, the electrical system catches fire, the plaster flakes off, and the chimney falls into the house. Years have passed since Ted Striker heroically saved many lives by avoiding a plane crash. Working as a test pilot for a new Lunar Shuttle, he gets innocently sent into a mental ward after a crash of the badly constructed, computer-navigated spaceship. When he hears that the exactly same type of shuttle is scheduled for a moon flight soon, he breaks out to hinder the launch. Aboard, Ted finds his ex-ex Elaine Dickinson working as stewardess again and her fiancé Simon, a member of the committee that wants the Mayflower I to be launched. In flight, the ship's computer ROK 9000 takes control, killing the crew. Ted and Elaine manage to switch it off, and now it is up to Ted again to save the passengers' lives - if there only wouldn't be these flashbacks to the war and these people who know Ted and have no faith in his abilities at all. |
