Pip, a good-natured, gullible young orphan, lives with kind blacksmith Joe Gargery and his bossy, abusive wife 'Mrs. Joe'. When the boy finds two hidden escaped galley convicts, he obeys under -probably unnecessary- threat of a horrible death to bring the criminals food he must steal at peril of more caning from the battle-ax. Just when Pip fears to get it really good while they have guests, a soldier comes for Joe who takes Pip along as assistant to work on the chains of escaped galley-convicts, who are soon caught. The better-natured one takes the blame for the stolen food. Later Pip is invited to became the playmate of Estelle, the equally arrogant adoptive daughter of gloomy, filthy rich Miss Havisham at her estate, who actually has 'permission' to break the kind kid's heart; being the only pretty girl he ever saw, she wins his heart forever, even after a mysterious benefactor pays trough a lawyer for his education and a rich allowance, so he can become a snob in London, by now 'ashamed' of simple Joe. Only after years in idle wealth, Pip learns Havisham is not his benefactor as he assumed, and both her story and those of his real sponsor and Estelle... |

Michael, Nick, and Steven are three buddies from the steel mill town of Clairton, Penn.They are like schoolmates, hanging out in a local bar and enjoying weekends of deer-hunting. Michael and Nick are also both in love with Linda, who seems to juggle both of the men. But their placid life is soon to be changed after they are enlisted in the airborne infantry of Vietnam. So they all celebrate a goodbye at Steven's wedding and they leave to Vietnam, where they are captured by the enemy and forced to play a game of Russian Roulette. They escape and return home, but their lives are forever changed. Nick stays in Vietnam, Michael returns to Linda, and Steven is handicapped after losing a leg in the war. |

Il cinema come sollievo dell'anima ! Convinto che in un periodo difficile si debbano girare soltanto film drammatici, un giovane regista cinematografico, durante la Seconda Guerra Mondiale, decide di girare un film ispirato alla vita dei senzatetto, lui che è abituato a girare sempre commedie. Travestitosi da barbone, inizia a frequentare i quartieri più poveri della città per cercare di conoscere gli ambienti e le persone di cui vorrebbe parlare. Con l'aiuto di una aspirante attrice riesce fare delle esperienze 'sul campo'. Dopo varie peripezie, si trova coinvolto in un errore giudiziario ed è condannato ai lavori forzati. Cerca di svelare la propria identità, ma non viene creduto. Durante la permanenza in carcere si rende conto che i detenuti trovano sollievo alla sofferenza di essere rinchiusi solo guardando film di cartoni animati. Alla fine viene riconosciuta la sua innocenza e viene rilasciato. Questa esperienza gli servirà molto per capire che in momenti difficili l'essere umano ha bisogno di gioia e, quindi, decide di tornare alle sue commedie. |

Four Cockney wide-boys are tricked into owing 500,000 nicker to the local gang-land boss and porn king, 'Hatchet' Harry Lonsdale. John McClane (Willis) is a cop from New York City who is on his way to Los Angeles to see his kids and his wife Holly (Bedelia), who moved to LA because of a job at the Nakatomi Corporation. When he arrives at Nakatomi Plaza, he meets Holly's boss Joe Takagi and her co-worker Harry Ellis. He and Holly go into a private bathroom and get into an argument. When Holly leaves to give a speech, thirteen armed terrorists lead by Hans Gruber (Rickman) seize control of the building and take the occupants of the 30th floor, who are the only ones left in the building, hostage. Luckily, they missed John since he was in the bathroom. He sneaks out and witnesses Gruber kill Takagi. He goes to floor 32 and pulls the fire alarm, but the terrorists cancel the alarm and send someone up to kill John. However, he kills the terrorist and steals his machine gun. Now he has to kill the rest of the terrorists and save the hostages before the terrorists get their way. |

This film is nothing but the tough duel between an offender and a cop. One of the most experienced burglar in US named Neal MacAuley (Robert De Niro) stands against Al Pacino's cop - detective Vince Hanna who is as charismatic as his enemy and has a penchant for strong measures as well. The scenes with the bank robbery and the following battle on LA streets are really breathtaking.

Based upon a real-life story that happened in the early seventies in which the Chase Manhattan Bank in Flatbush, Brooklyn, was held siege by a gay bank robber determined to steal enough money for his male lover to undergo a sex change operation. On a hot summer afternoon, the First Savings Bank of Brooklyn is held up by Sonny and Sal, two down-and-out characters. Although the bank manager and female tellers agree not to interfere with the robbery, Sonny finds that there's actually nothing much to steal, as most of the cash has been picked up for the day. Sonny then gets an unexpected phone call from Police Captain Moretti, who tells him the place is surrounded by the city's entire police force. Having few options under the circumstances, Sonny nervously bargains with Moretti, demanding safe escort to the airport and a plane out of the country in return for the bank employees' safety. |
