As a young orphan, a boy refuses to accept the name given him by priests and instead chooses to take on the name of Simon Templar after the Saint of magic. Speed ahead and the young boy is now a master thief in bidding wars with countries for his services. Using his skills of master disguise, he eludes all pursuers as he assumes names associated with the various Saints. In this role after stealing from a Russian industrialist, the industrialist hires The Saint to steal a formula for cold fusion being developed by a young female scientist. Cold fusion is said to permit a nation to heat its citizens with only a few gallons of water. However, on this case The Saint falls in love with the scientist placing him in a quandary of fulfilling his professional obligations or staying with the innocent young scientist. When she becomes threatened by the Russian Mafia, he has no choice but to go ahead with his job. However, she follows him to Moscow, setting off a chase across the City and through their sewers. |

A Russian scientist in Australia, Dr. Nekhorvich (Rade Serbedzija), who has created a skin-corroding virus called "Chimera" and its antidote called "Bellerophon", goes to the CDC in Atlanta. When renegade IMF agent Sean Ambrose (Dougray Scott) learns about Dr. Nekhrovich's inventions, he is intent on getting them and infecting the whole world in order to acquire the wealth and power by selling the cure. What he expects is that the price of "Bellerophon" will bump up when the public gets to know about the shocking effect of "Chimera". Ambrose kills the scientist but what he gets is only the antidote. It turns out that the prudent Dr. Nechrovich has injected himself with the deadly virus. Ambrose stops at nothing to steal the virus from Biocyte Pharmaceuticals in Sydney otherwise no one will buy the cure. The Government sends IMF agent Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) on a mission to stop the bloodthirsty terrorist before he manages to execute his perfidious destructive plans. Ethan enlists help of his beloved, seductive adventuress Nyah Nordoff-Hall (Thandie Newton), computer expert Luther Stickell (Ving Rhames) and Australian helicopter pilot Billy Biard (John Polson). The comedy drama comprises two interweaving stories, all taking place in Alabama in 1965. The first story follows a glamorous, ambitious and eccentric housewife, Lucille Vincent (Melanie Griffith), who decides to put a stop to her husband's continual abuse and kills him by chopping off his head. With her husband's head in a hat box, she takes her seven kids to her brother's place and heads for the bright lights of Hollywood, where she is determined to achieve television stardom. Lucille reaches Los Angeles with a series of adventures and is offered to act in a movie. When the box with the head inside eventually falls into the hands of two policemen, Lucille gets arrested and escorted back to Alabama for her trial. The second story is narrated by Peejoe (Lucas Black), Lucille's 12-year-old nephew, an honest boy with a keen sense of justice who becomes involved in the racial strife. He raises an accusation against a corrupt sheriff who murdered a small black boy, Taylor Jackson (Miller), who dared to take a swim in the town's municipal swimming pool. The two story lines are joined at the trial. |
