Calogero Anello is a 9-year old child living in the Bronx - notorious for gangster bars, racist people and aggressive nature. Calogero witnesses a shooting in the street involving local big shot gangster, Sonny (Chazz Palimentri), but refuses to grass him to the police. Sonny grows fond of the child and begins to teach him how things are conducted on streets. Calogero's father (Robert DeNiro) is a working man who wants his child to grow up and make his money honestly, and does not want him to mix with Sonny. Despite his father's disapproval, for eight years he continues to see Sonny, and receives a 'street' education from him. Despite being a gangster, Sonny loves Calogero and teaches him that being a gangster is too risky and dangerous. However Calogero misinterprets Sonny's message, and still gets involved with racist fights with his friends. Things get worse when he falls in love with a black girl. This story of the Bronx, as a child grows up with two educations, one from school and one from the street. As the child grows closer to a gangster, he begins to grow away from his family. |

When Hank Deerfield is told by the military that his son Mike, who only recently returned from a tour of duty in Iraq, has gone AWOL he travels to the military base to see if he can make any sense of the young man's disappearance. Hank is himself a retired military investigator and is frustrated by both the military and the civilian police's apparent lack of interest in the case. In the end he does manage to get help from Det. Emily Sanders and together they piece together the events that led to Mike's disappearance. Notwithstanding the title, this movie contains less of sensuality then you might think. This film is about a retired, depressive and unfriendly colonel, who had lost his sight and thinks that life has no sense anymore. He wants to take the last breath of life - to meet and talk with his brother, then to put up at a hotel, to sleep over with a beautiful woman - and then to commit suicide. This film clearly shows us, how important is to take trouble about a lonely, depressed person: such sympathy and compassion can save him from death. A young lad (Chris O'Donnell) hires to look after the seek, infirm people; this fellow tries to hearten the colonel, to find the words which could return the hope and optimism to the retired blind man. One should remember, that the best things any man can ever have are compassion, hope and friendship. One of the most succesful roles of Al Pacino. |
