This breath-taking thriller revolves around Drake Goodman (Matthew Modine) and Patty Palmer (Melanie Griffith), a middle class young couple who purchase their dream house – a fabulous mansion in the upscale San Francisco neighborhood of Pacific Heights. In order to pay the huge mortgage payments, they decide to rent two apartments on the first floor. Everything goes well until they meet a charming, elegant, smooth-talking and prosperous looking man named Carter Hayes (Michael Keaton) who seems to be an ideal tenant. When Carter moves in, he turns the couple's peaceful life into a living hell by refusing to pay his rent, making annoying humming noises in the middle of the night and breeding cockroaches in his apartment. President James Dale of the United States and his right-hand man, Jerry Ross discover that an army of Martian UFOs are hovering around the Earth, and everyone has a different response. Some, like Texan alcohol dealer Art Land and slimy nesman Jason Black, just want to make a profit out of it. Others, such as TV hostess Nathalie Lake, Land's spiritualist wife Barbara, and the Southern-like Norris family, are excited, and some, like Dale's wife, Marsha, and daughter, Taffy, don't care. Richie Norris is extremely intelligent but is only respected by his insane grandmother, while his older brother Billy is favored for joining the army. General Decker doesn't trust the Martians and insist they fight, but General Casey is more optimistic. The Martians appear to come in peace but suddenly begin to use their super-powerful and technologically advanced weapons to wipe out the population and great structures. Soon, they attack Las Vegas, where the Norrises are living, where former heavyweight champion Byron Williams is visiting, where an obnoxious lawyer is gambling, and where Tom Jones is performing in concerts. |

American Special Forces arrest Russian General Ivan Radek (Jürgen Prochnow) who has taken over Kazakhstan and set up a dictatorship that has resulted in the death of thousands of people. James Marshall (Harrison Ford), the President of the USA, visits Moscow and makes a speech on the USA's get-tough policy with regard to the dictatorial regime and terrorism. On the flight back to Washington, a group of Russian nationalists disguised as newspaper reporters and led by the Ivan Korshunov (Gary Oldman) seize the plane and take the passengers hostage. They want the President to release General Radek from prison and threaten to kill the hostages unless their demands are met. Everybody is sure that the President manages to escape from the plane in an emergency capsule. However, Marshall, a combat hero in the Vietnam War, considers it to be his duty to stay on board to rescue the hostages and regain control of the plane. |

Seriocomic story based on the memoir by Beverly Donofrio, the movie follows a young woman who finds her life radically altered by an event from her teen years. Born in 1950, Beverly grew up bright and ambitious in a working-class neighborhood in Connecticut; her father was a tough but good-hearted cop who listened to his daughter's problems, and her mother was a nervous woman eager to imagine the worst. From an early age, Beverly displays a keen intelligence and an interest in literature, and dreams of going to college in New York and becoming a writer. However, she also develops an early interest in boys, and at 15 finds herself madly in love with a boy from her high school. However, an attempt to get his attention leads to an embarassing incident at a party, and Ray, a sweet but thick-headed 18-year-old, steps forward to defend her. Beverly and Ray end up making out, and after one thing leads to another, Beverly discovers she's pregnant. Telling Ray is only marginally less difficult than informing her parents, and at 16, Beverly is a wife and mother. Against the odds, Beverly is determined to still finish high school and go on to college, but that goal becomes more difficult with time, especially after Beverly's marriage begins to fall apart.
