This is the story of three gentle persons: Paul Rivers (Penn) an ailing mathematician lovelessly married to an English emigré (Gainsbourg), Christina Peck, an upper-middle-class suburban housewife, happily married and mother of two little girls, and Jack Jordan (Del Toro), an ex-convict who has found in his Christian faith the strength to raise a family. They will be brought together by a terrible accident that will change their lives. By the final frame, none of them will be the same as they will learn harsh truths about love, faith, courage, desire and guilt, and how chance can change our worlds irretrievably, forever. |

Young Treasury Agent Elliot Ness arrives in Chicago and is deternimed to take down Al Capone but he learns that it's not going to be easy, because Capone has the police in his pocket. But Ness meets Jimmy Malone a veteran patrolman and probably the most honorable one in the force. He asks Malone to help him get Capone but Malone warns him that if he goes after Capone, he is going to war. They recruit academy cadet, George Stone and Treasury agent Oscar Wallace, who is also an accountant, who wants to prosecute Capone for tax evasion. This film depicts the most interesting period in the Las Vegas history along with the dangerous relations "ace" had with Ginger, a prostite who is played by stunning beauty Sharon Stone. Violence and brutality are not given here as a crime: it seems to be only an unpleasant, but necessary part of the dirty and bloody gambling business. This movie is based on the real events and on the book by Nicholas Pileggi which encloses an adaptation of the real entries of judgement which was held in Cansas-City when the Las Vegas' mafia bosses was convicted there.

The action takes place in the USA in the 1930s. Grace (Nicole Kidman), a beatiful woman on the run from gangsters, arrives in the small Rocky Mountain town of Dogville. Town philosopher Tom Edison (Paul Bettany) takes her in and convinces the townsfolk to hide her. In exchange for shelter, Grace has to work for the townspeople all hours: she teaches math to the local kids, takes care of the blind old man, helps the apple farmer (Stellan Skarsgård) and the shopkeeper (Lauren Bacall). Eventually, the townspeople, egoistic and ruthless, begin demanding more and more from poor Grace. Tired of working double shifts, Grace decides to leave the town, but the escape fails, and she has to pass through a black ordeal. As a slave she is forced to toil from dawn to dusk, and raped by every man in Dogville night after night. Finally, Tom calls up Grace’s father (James Caan) to rescue his daughter from her inexorable torturers. |

Dirty Harry doesn't wear Kevlar and he doesn't carry an arsenal of automatic weapons. All he needs is his .44 magnum. Six shots doesn't seem like much, but it's enough when you rarely miss and a single shot can knock you into the next millennium. Dirty Harry handles the search for Scorpio, and ends up stopping three men from robbing a bank. Known for bringing bad luck to his partners, Dirty Harry reluctantly accepts new partner Chico Gonzalez on the orders of Lieutenant Al Bressler. Dirty Harry even gets chewed out by the mayor. Scorpio promises to kill a black person and a priest if the city doesn't give him $100,000. Nearly caught, Scorpio doubles the ransom, kidnaps a 14-year-old girl, and buries her alive, giving the police a limited time to cough up the money before she suffocates. Dirty Harry follows Scorpio's instructions for the delivery, which results in Chico getting wounded. Dirty Harry tracks Scorpio to Kezar Stadium, the home of the San Francisco 49ers. Scorpio is running across the football field, and Dirty Harry calmly takes aim and nails him in the leg at the 50-yard line. The shot lifts him up and flips him over. Dirty Harry tortures Scorpio into revealing the girl's hiding place. She's found dead and Scorpio is released due to Dirty Harry's unorthodox procedure. Later, Scorpio takes over a school bus. And Dirty Harry is the only one who can take Scorpio down. |

Carlito Brigante is released from jail after serving five years of a much longer stretch. He vows to go straight and to live life as a fine, upstanding citizen. He even rekindles a romance with his ex-lover. However, Carlito's associates cannot seem to leave him in peace...his nephew involves him a pool-room gunfight, his lawyer asks him for "favours" which spiral out of control, and even an old friend (now a wheelchair bound paraplegic) tries to get him into trouble with the law. Carlito decides to make a run for Florida and the promise of a new life, but has one final dramatic escape to make from some hoods who believe (wrongly) that he was behind the murder of their boss. |

Nicholas Garrigan (James McAvoy), a young idealistic Scottish doctor, wants to escape from the bourgeois life of his parents and thus volunteers to work in a remote Ugandan village. His arrival is coincident with the beginning of Idi Amin's (Forest Whitaker) reign. The new leader unexpectedly offers Garrigan the position of his personal physician, and, enamored by the president's magnanimity and charisma, the doctor accepts a tempting offer. Nicholas soon catches himself being his advisor on all matters, from architecture to foreign affairs. At first he feels proud to be given the honor of being Amin's closest confidante but then becomes appalled by the tyrant's savagery and murderous insanity. Moreover, he realizes that he is abetting Amin. Eventually, Garrigan has to put out considerable effort in order to avoid falling victim to the barbaric dictator and escape Uganda alive. |

Kaufman is struggling with the arduous task of adapting The Orchid Thief, by Susan Orlean, which doesn't have an obvious dramatic line (it is essentially a book about orchids). At the same time he faces a mid-life crisis, which is worsened by the presence of his twin brother Donald, a less talented but more joyous person than Charlie, who dreams of making a lot of money with screenplays. The movie also shows Susan Orlean as she does her research for the book, and John Laroche, a colorful orchid hunter whom Susan interviews and, later, falls in love with. These stories eventually intertwine, with unpredictable results. |

The satirical comedy centers on famous Kazakh television personality Borat Sagdiyev (Sacha Baron Cohen) who is assigned by the Kazakh Ministry of Information to travel to the USA so as to make a documentary about this 'greatest country in the world'. While in the United States, he sees an episode of Baywatch on TV and instantly becomes infatuated with sexy Pamela Anderson. Borat feels an urge to get married to her and, without thinking twice, sets out on a quest for the most desirable woman on Earth. On the way to California, he carries on gathering footage for his documentary and has a great many adventures while interviewing and interacting with Americans.

Richard and Susan are a couple from San Diego, California who are vacationing in Morocco while their two children are at home with their Mexican housekeeper, Amelia. A rifle finds its way into the hands of a local herdsman's young sons, who recklessly take a shot at a tour bus and hit Susan in the shoulder, causing her severe injury. The distraught Richard calls home to tell Amelia of the situation, who shortly departs for Mexico to attend her son's wedding, with Richard and Susan's children in tow. Disaster thus multiplies, with the situation in Morocco ascribed to terrorists in the media, while Amelia meets with trouble at the Mexican border when she attempts to return to San Diego with Richard and Susan's children. Meanwhile, in Tokyo, a widower tied to the rifle in question, a complex shift of ownership to which the audience is privy, attempts to deal with the memories of his recently deceased wife and his strained relationship with his deaf teenage daughter. |

During the auction, we flash back to the creation of the violin in 17th century Italy, and follow the violin as it makes its way through an 18th century Austrian monastery, a violinist in 19th century Oxford, China during the Cultural Revolution, and back to Montreal, where a collector tries to establish the identity and the secrets of "the red violin." |
