When the summer came, Wabasha county fishermen were almost ready to use their fishing rods when the serious trouble appeared in their small town. Trouble's name was Maria and she was going to turn the local shop where they used to buy rods and baits into a fashionable restaurant. Max Goldman (Walter Matthau) finds Maria very attractive (Sophia Loren herself!), but he and his friend John Gustavson (Jack Lemmon) stand against her and her business weaving the different plots to stop her. Old grumblers should solve problems of their children at the same time.
