Adapted from William Golding's novel, the movie follows a group of American military cadets, aged eight to fourteen, who become stranded on a deserted island after a plane crash in the ocean. The boys are quickly divided into two enemy camps. While the self-restrained, decorous, reasonable Ralph (Balthazar Getty) leads one group, wanting to act in a civilized way and trying to find a way for survival, the violence-prone, power-obsessed Jack (Chris Furrh) forms a band of hunters who have fun and degenerate into savages. |

On March 5th 1873, two Scandinavian women living on the Isles of Shoals, New Hampshire, were brutally murdered. The first woman was hacked by an ax, the second one was beaten and strangled. The third woman, Maren Hontvedt (Sarah Polley), managed to survive by hiding in a sea cave. Later she identified the murderer to the police. It was Louis Wagner (Ciarán Hinds) who was condemned to be hanged for his crimes. A century later, Pulitzer Prize winning poet Thomas Janes (Sean Penn), his wife, Jean (Catherine McCormack), a photojournalist, his stepbrother, Rich Janes (Josh Lucas), and Rich's girlfriend, Adaline Gunne (Elizabeth Hurley), travel to the same Isles on a yacht. Jean doesn't spend time only enjoying the sea and the sun but investigating the mysterious double homicide. The storyline shifts between the present and the past as the two different narratives of Maren's life, the eyewitness of the murder, and Jean's seemingly perfect life, interweave in the suspenseful movie. |

The couples are Joseph and Isabelle, an addicted tennis enthusiasts, wanting a tennis-themed wedding; Michael and Joanna are a naturist couple going to pass their marriage without any clothes; and the third couple are Matt and Sam wanting their nuptials musically-themed. All the dialogue in this British comedy was improvised by the movie cast during the filming. The movie follows Frank W. Dux (Jean Claude Van Damme), a soldier in the U.S. Military who is preparing for an underground, deadly dangerous martial arts tournament called Kumite. As a kid, he was adopted and trained by Senzo Tanaka (Roy Chiao), a Japanese master of art. Due to the unwearied training Frank went from a below average fighter to invincibility. Dux goes AWOL to participate in the Kumite that takes place in Hong Kong. Two army officers, Helmer (Norman Burton) and Rawlins (Forest Whitaker) are assigned to hunt down and arrest him.
