Three wealthy kids - gadget geek Violet (Emily Browning), bookworm Klaus (Liam Aiken), and little Sunny (Kara Hoffman, Shelby Hoffman) are sent to live with a distant relative after losing their parents in a fire that destroyed the family home. Wild, weird and paranoid relative Count Olaf (Jim Carrey), an out-of-work actor, locks them up at night and plots to kill them for their inheritance. This black comedy for the whole family is based on the best-selling books by Daniel Handler and also stars Meryl Streep as Aunt Josephine and Billy Connolly as Uncle Monty.

Merlin and Mim have a Wizards' Duel, during which each changes into various creatures, with Merlin using his wits to win. On New Year's Day, a great tournament is held in London to pick a new king. Wart, attending as Kay's squire, forgets Kay's sword, and runs back to the inn to get it, but the inn is locked. Wart, seeing the sword in the stone, innocently, and easily, pulls it out. When the knights marvel at the wondrous sword and question where he got it, Wart has to prove himself all over again, and again he pulls the sword from the stone. Wart is proclaimed king by the marveling warriors. Wart as King Arthur is apprehensive of his ability to govern, but Merlin returns to reassure him.

While Chief Grizzly (Xzibit) and Detective Bill Stork (Anthony Anderson) investigate a domestic disturbance at Granny's (Glenn Close) cottage, it becomes clear that the Red Riding Hood (Anne Hathaway) owes a karate black belt, the Wolf (Patrick Warburton) isn't the blood-thirsty predator and an oafish Woodsman (Jim Belushi) doesn't have much of an intellectual advantage over the trees he chops down and the figure of the elusive Goody Bandit looms up over the story.

Hercules grows up but later learns he is the son of gods, and in order to return to Mt. Olympus he must turn into a "true hero". He is trained by Phil the satyr and becomes the most famous hero in ancient Greece after battling monsters of all kinds. He even saves Mt. Olympus from Hade's take-over, but he only becomes a god again after he offers to exchange his life in order to save Meg, his love, from Hades' underworld and shows that a true hero must have a strong heart and not only physical strength.
This dark, but nonetheless sparkling comedy follows a vivid family which inhabits the dull, strange house. All horrors here are stylized and are not terrible at all - quite the contrary, all these vampires and other evil spirits who, in fact, respectively are the Addams family, can win your sympathies instead of expected fear.
