In this engrossing mystery thriller, master sleuth Sherlock Holmes (Basil Rathbone) and his faithful assistant Dr. Watson (Nigel Bruce) are hired by Roland Carstairs (Geoffrey Steele) to escort his widowed mother Lady Margaret (Mary Forbes) on a London to Edinburgh train. Roland fears for the safety of the priceless huge diamond called the Star of Rhodesia that his mother got on her 25th wedding anniversary many years before. Aided by Inspector Lestrade (Dennis Hoey), they guard Lady Margaret's compartment, however, Roland turns up dead and the jewel is stolen.
This enjoyable, light-hearted thriller revolves around a team of experts who specialize in testing security systems for high powered companies. The team includes veteran CIA operative Donald Crease (Sydney Poitier), expert in sound Erwin Emory (David Strathairn), young expert hacker Carl Arbegast (River Phoenix), and a gadget master named Mother (Dan Aykroyd). The head of the group is Martin Bishop (Robert Redford), an aging computer hacker who has been hiding from the FBI after he pulled off a sophisticated computer-based heist in the 1960s. One day Bishop is blackmailed by the government agents into finding and retrieving a valuable black box, containing a code-breaking device, from the mathematical genius who invented it. Bishop's colleagues naively go on the top secret mission, but soon find themselves reluctantly embroiled in a dark web of deception and betrayal, intrigue and murder.
The horror movie by Tobe Hooper (Texas Chainsaw Massacre director) follows the Doyle family as they move to a small, sleepy California town and attempt to run a funeral home and cemetery. The formerly abandoned funeral home seems not to be clear of spirits of horror, rumors are swirling around the community that Bobby may still be alive. A sculptor of wax figures for a museum is horrified when his partner proposes setting fire to the unpopular museum in order to collect the insurance money. As the wax figures melt amid the blaze, the two men have a fight. The sculptor is knocked out in the scuffle and left to "perish" among the flames. He resurfaces many years later for the launch of his own wax museum. The opening coincides with the sudden disappearance of some dead bodies from the city morgue. His assistant begins to suspect his boss of foul play, especially after the deranged wizard of wax begins eyeing his assistant's lovely girlfriend's friend as a model for a waxed figure of Marie Antoinette.

Detective Nick Curren (Michael Douglas), conducting the criminal investigation of a rock star murder, is to interrogate the suspect - Catherine Tramell (Sharon Stone), the woman writer who is a famous authoress of her shocking novels. She is blonde, bisexual, seductive, suspective and obviously dangerous - as well as invulnerable to all attempts to accuse her of the murder. But one of her novels contains the description of the same murder. Besides, Tramell was a lover of the killed guy, and what is more, his breathless body was found on the bed which was evidently a place of a hot sexual battle. Curren finds himself slowly involved into the web of Catherine's intrigue; he can only guess at her guilt. Is he doomed to be the hero of her next novel?

The only problem with the case is the detective becomes romantically involved with the likely suspect.
