A well-known actor, who hasn't accepted a role in four years, is considering a project. The cousin of the director drives him to Archie's Ranch Market, in Carson, and drops him off to do a little research. He's fascinated by one of the checkers, Scarlet, a young woman from Spain with a preternatural ability to ring up items at the cash register. She hates her job, stuck at the 10 items or less lane. The actor chats her up, and when her shift ends, he asks for a ride. In the course of the afternoon, he helps her prepare for a job interview. She needs to have confidence, he needs to commit. Human contact, however brief, can change people. |

He makes the first step to his dream and starts working on a pit crew as a jackman for a race team. One day he is lucky to replace Terry Cheveaux (Adam McKay) who is only an apology for a driver and ends up finishing third despite starting mid-race in last place. Ricky soon becomes the best NASCAR driver, around whom reporters and girl fans always swarm. He and his stalwart childhood friend, racing partner Cal Naughton Jr. (John C. Reilly) always finish races in the No. 1 and No. 2 positions; he has his trophy wife Carley (Leslie Bibb), two kids and fat cat accounts in the bank. It goes on like this, until a pretentious Formula One driver Jean Girard (Sacha Baron Cohen) challenges Ricky and outperforms him on the track. The ex-champion finds himself in a hospital bed instead of a pedestal. Doctors prohibit him from dreaming of his comeback on track but despite everything Ricky gets back into racing and makes it hot for Jean Girard.

Based on the events of September 11, 2001, the drama tells the true-life story of courageous police officers John McLoughlin (Nicolas Cage) and Will Jimeno (Michael Pena) who rushed into the sprawling twin towers of the World Trade Center after they were hit by planes piloted by terrorists. The drama follows the life of Marie Antoinette (Kirsten Dunst), an Archduchess of Austria who drank the bitterest cup of humiliation in her life. She had complicated, poignant relationships with her strict and domineering mother and a disastrous marriage to the shy and socially awkward Dauphin of France who didn’t consent to have sexual intercourse with his wife for seven long years. Feeling isolated and distressed, Marie Antoinette tried to find consolation in the decadence of the French aristocracy and in a secret liaison with Swedish Count Fersen (Jamie Dornan). Her short-run popularity as a spouse of King Louis XVI gave place to a public censure for her frivolous and eccentric behaviour during the celebrations which she held at the palace of Versailles. Marie Antoinette braved the French Revolution and bore herself with dignity. Her close connections with Austria and support for a foreign intervention were so apparent that she was stripped of her riches, imprisoned and sentenced to death. Various attempts to get her out failed. On October 16, 1793, Marie Antoinette was charged with treason and espionage for other countries, and was executed by guillotine. |
