1835 Studios: A Cultural Hub, Art Gallery, and Community Space in the Heart of San Diego

CoPlace started by participating with the community.
1835 Studios is an innovative project located at the edge of downtown San Diego in the Sherman Heights.

Offering 7,000-square-feet of creative studios, galleries, and retail units, it is the perfect place for local artists and entrepreneurs to foster their business growth.

The site also features an outdoor area with over 5,000-square-feet of space, which has been the backdrop to a range of community events including pop-up markets, health & wellness meetups, art shows, shopping, and food from local pop-ups.

Additionally, an outdoor climbing gym is available for those looking for an exciting experience. Launched during the pandemic, 1835 Studios is a cultural hub and community space where creativity and collaboration come together.

"With the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, the creative scene in San Diego was left without an outlet or place to express and promote local creative talent. Studios and galleries closed down, and showcasing events were postponed without any real timeline, leaving artists and creators with nowhere to turn."  - Matthew Martinez, Mesa Press

Coplace works.

1835 Studios was an example of activating the small business a community. Creating a small business hub with short term tenants that consist of new businesses was a difficult proposition. If our team had simply focused on spreadsheet numbers, it would have never happened. By focusing on small business economic development, we proved that there is a small business community that is yearning to grow.
