Business Community Activation.
Barrio Logan.

Barrio Logan was once a place few outside locals would venture. As of 2017, Barrio Logan was named State-Designated Cultural District, one of 14 districts in the state that received the designation thanks to the rich culture and small business support form local investors.

PorVida was the first building in Barrio Logan to offer its residents a mixed-use space for budding entrepreneurs. Since its original purchase in 2014, the neighborhood has used PorVida as a beacon when reshaping the perception of the Barrio Logan neighborhood.

CoPlace never tells a community what it should be. Rather we help to highlight the beauty already present in a neighborhood’s culture and people. In this way, the CoPlace team has become a part of the Barrio Logan business community. The content shown below was all created by Barrio businesses and residents.

Local leader, and co-owner of PorVida Café, Milo Lorenzana, says, "The barrio still has its heart, its culture is intact, and local businesses are thriving. It's amazing to see how our neighborhood—which used to be thought of as dangerous—is now a must-visit destination in San Diego."

Barrio Logan has 10,000+ people coming weekly for shopping, food, art and work. Barrio Logan is a true testament to what is possible when you believe in people.

Staying true to cultural roots.

By starting with the community, one can actually learn what keeps its members involved. We use what we learn to identify leaders, inform architectural choices, and keep cultural assets intact. We hope that you experience Barrio Logan for yourself.
